A strong attacking performance propels Houston to victory in season opener

Houston's high-flying offense pushed the Cougars past the Cardinals to open the LSU Tournament. Led by juniors Sydney Jones and Kamille Gibson, the offense recorded a .364 hitting percentage with three players tallying double-digit kills.

The first set started back-and-forth with the score knotted up at 14 halfway through the set. Succeeding the media timeout, the Cougars stormed out claiming 10 of the next 12 points finished by a pair of service aces from Gibson to claim the set 25-16.

Junior Kalei Edson opened the second set with an ace followed by even scoring from both sides before an Incarnate Word 6-0 run led the Cardinals to a 19-15 lead. Sophomore middle blocker Tara Greenberry decided to take over the match notching two kills and a solo block to drive the Cougars to nine unanswered points en route to a 25-20 set win.

Gibson started the scoring early in the third set accounting for four of the first six Cougars points. The early lead would not be relinquished behind six kills each from Jones and Gibson to push Houston to a 25-17 set win and match sweep.
