Senior quarterback throws for 363 yards and five touchdowns, leads Houston to fourth straight top 25 matchup win at home
HOUSTON – HOUSTON – University of Houston fifth-year quarterback Conner Weigman threw for 343 passing yards and a career-high five touchdowns to lead the #20/18 Cougars to a 35-32 win over #18/20 Oklahoma State inside TDECU Stadium on Saturday night.
Competing in Houston's first Top-20 matchup inside TDECU Stadium since 2015, Weigman set a single-game high with his touchdown total and now has 20 touchdowns with only two interceptions this season. Weigman became the first FBS QB to throw for 340+ yards with 5 touchdown passes against a Top 25 opponent since LaNorris Sellars in 2024 against Missouri.
The Cypress, Texas, native topped his previous single-game best of four TD passes at –/rv Kansas State (Oct. 10), at Georgia Southern (Sept. 26), vs. LSU (Dec. 27, 2025) and against West Virginia (Nov. 1, 2025) and recorded his fifth game with 3+ touchdown passes this season.
Weigman's 343 passing yards are the most by a Cougar against the Cowboys since Case Keenum's 366 in 2009.
He is the fourth Houston quarterback to throw for 300+ yards against Oklahoma State.
Playing in front of 42,544 fans – the fourth-largest crowd in TDECU Stadium history, Houston racked up 505 yards of total offense, its third game with 500+yards this season.
When the Cougars went through the air, senior wide receiver Amare Thomas and fifth-year wide receiver Trent Walker were frequent targets. Thomas hauled in seven catches for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Walker finished with seven receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown.
They became the first Cougar duo with 100+ receiving yards in a game since Tank Dell (180), KeSean Carter (136) and Matthew Golden (105) accomplished the feat at SMU on Nov. 5, 2022.
After playing the first half with 17 total points scored, both schools erupted for a combined 50 points in the final 30 minutes. Houston built a 21-10 lead at halftime but saw Oklahoma State pull to within four or fewer points three times in the second half.
Each time, Weigman and the Cougar offense responded.
After Oklahoma State moved to within 21-17 late in the third quarter, Thomas hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass for a 28-17 Cougar lead. When the Cowboys used a 66-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Hawkins to close the gap to 28-25 early in the fourth quarter, Weigman delivered a 48-yard heave to junior wide receiver Koby Young to take a 35-25 lead.
And when the Cowboys closed to within 35-32 on a touchdown pass, Weigman connected with Thomas and Walker on critical third downs and broke through the line for an 8-yard run against a timeout-less Cowboys on the final drive of the game to seal the win.
With the win, #20/18 Houston improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma State fell to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Oklahoma State took advantage of a Houston turnover on the first possession of the game and made it to the Cougar 5 before the Houston defense held and forced a 23-yard field goal from Sam Keltner with 8:41 left in the opening period.
The Cougars responded on the next drive, marching 75 yards on 12 plays, and took a 7-3 lead on Weigman's 2-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Patrick Overmyer with 2:15 remaining.
The score remained that way until late in the second quarter. With Oklahoma State facing third-and-long, fifth-year safety Kentrell Webb leaped into the air and snagged a Drew Mestemaker pass to set up the Houston offense just outside the Oklahoma State red zone.
Weigman hit Overmyer with a 5-yard pass to extend a drive on fourth down, and three plays later, connected with Thomas on a 7-yard touchdown pass with 2:22 left in the first half.
Oklahoma State took the opening kickoff of an explosive second half and pulled to within 14-10 on Ayo Adeyi's 13-yard touchdown run around the right side with 10:57 left in the third quarter.
Once again, Houston answered on its next possession with an eight-play, 75-yard drive. Thomas' 51-yard reception put the Cougars on the 3-yard line, and Weigman's 2-yard touchdown pass to Walker pushed Houston's lead to 21-10 with 9:05 left.
The Cowboys moved to within 21-17 on the next possession on Wyatt Young's 2-yard touchdown catch from Mestemaker with 4:45 left in the third quarter.
Weigman led the Cougars and used his feet for the big play on the next drive. With Houston facing third-and-long from its 28, Weigman scrambled up the middle for 44 yards to the OSU 28.
Looking at fourth-and-3, Thomas fought through defensive pass interference to catch a 21-yard touchdown pass from Weigman in the back of the end zone to extend Houston's lead to 28-17 with 2:00 remaining.
After Oklahoma State forced the Cougars to punt, Caleb Hawkins hauled in a Mestemaker pass and raced 66 yards to the end zone to move Oklahoma State to within 28-25 with 11:57 left in the game.
Weigman connected with Young on a 48-yard touchdown pass down the left sideline to push the Houston lead to 35-25 with 9:48 left, but Oklahoma State moved to within 35-32 on Mestemaker's 8-yard touchdown pass to Justin Bowick with 4:54 remaining.
