Two linemen named to AP All-America Midseason First Team, tight end named to Second Team
HOUSTON – Three Houston Football athletes were named to Associated Press Midseason All-America teams on Thursday. Offensive linemen Shadre Hurst and Anthony Boswell were named to the First Team and tight end Patrick Overmyer was named to the Second Team.
Hurst and Boswell have helped anchor one of the best offensive lines in the country, allowing the second fewest tackles for loss in the nation and the 14th ranked rushing offense in the FBS.
Boswell started his career as a walk-on at Purdue before transferring to Toledo, where he was a Freshman All-American, before joining the Cougars this season. Boswell is currently the highest graded offensive lineman in the Big 12, the highest graded run block player in the Big 12 and the second highest graded pass block player in the league (min 350 snaps played).
Hurst is the second highest graded offensive lineman in the Big 12 with the fourth highest pass block grade and second highest run block grade (min 350 snaps). The Cartersville, Ga., native is one of nine players to advance to from the Preseason All-America First-Team to the Midseason First-Team.
Overmyer six receiving touchdowns leads all FBS tight ends and his 399 receiving yards are second nationally. The Kingwood, Texas native tied the NCAA single-game receiving touchdowns record for a tight end in Houston's win at Kansas State by hauling in four touchdown catches.
Houston's three AP Midseason All-America selections lead the Big 12 and is tied for the national lead with UCLA for the most Midseason All-America selections.
