Cougars drop first match to ranked opponent this season
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Houston Volleyball team suffered a straight-set loss to #14 Purdue at Historic Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Alana Torres-Rivera posted her second career double-digit digs performance with 10 while redshirt senior Barakat Rahmon paced the Cougars offensively, earning six kills on 13 swings and adding three blocks.

After the teams evenly split the first 10 points in the opening frame, Purdue posted a 3-0 run to claim the lead. Another 3-0 stretch pushed the Boilermaker's advantage to 14-8, allowing Purdue to claim a 25-17 set win.

The Boilermakers kept the momentum heading into the second. Jumping out to a 9-3 lead, Purdue maintained its six-point edge as late as 16-10, but Houston came roaring back, tying the set at 23-all. After a timeout, the Boilermakers secured back-to-back points to go up by two, 25-23.Â

Houston seized the energy heading into the third. Winning seven of the first 10 points, the Cougars held a four-point advantage at 17-13, but Purdue surged to win the next eight points, taking the lead and helping to win the set, 25-18, to secure the sweep.
