Moa Svedenskiold Tees off at NCAA Championships on Friday

CARLSBAD, Calif. – University of Houston Women's Golf junior Moa Svedenskiold makes her NCAA Championships debut when she tees off on Friday afternoon at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa.

Svedenskiold – whose name is pronounced Mo-Uh Suh-Vee-Den-Kee-Old – earned her ticket to the NCAA Championships came after finishing fifth with a score of 2-under 214 at the NCAA Columbus Regional on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State Golf Club on May 5-7. The Halmstad, Sweden, native fired three straight rounds of par or lower at that postseason opener.

Tied through 14 holes with SMU's Emily Odwin for the lone qualifier spot in the Final Round, Svedenskiold posted par on Nos. 15-16 and broke the tie for good with a birdie on the 160-yard, par-3 17^th hole.

Svedenskiold found trouble in the right rough with her tee shot off No. 18 but got her approach shot to the green and two-putted from there to save par.

This season, Svedenskiold leads the Cougars with a 71.93 scoring average, 19 rounds of par or lower and seven in the 60s.

She won individual championships at the Veritex Bank Collegiate (April 7-8, Trinity Forest Golf Club, Dallas) and Riverbend Intercollegiate (March 10-11, Riverbend Country Club, Sugar Land, Texas), becoming only the second Cougar (Leonie Harm) to win multiple tournaments in a single season.

Svedenskiold topped the Cougars this season with four Top-Five finishes and five Top-10 showings.

She owns the three top scoring averages in Houston single-season history and leads all Cougars with a career 71.72 total.

TEAM FIELD
Svedenskiold will compete against student-athletes from UNLV, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Baylor, Virginia, Wake Forest, Florida, Florida State, Mississippi, Georgia Southern, Michigan State, Texas, Northwestern, Iowa State, Arizona State, Kansas, UCLA, Ohio State, Cal State Fullerton, Stanford, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Florida Gulf Coast, LSU, USC, TCU, Arkansas, Oregon, NC State, Tennessee, Auburn, Mississippi State, Furman, Oklahoma State and Kansas State.

TEE TIMES
For Friday's First Round, Svedenskiold will compete in a group with Anna Davis (Auburn) and Marie Madsen (NC State) beginning at 4:02 p.m. (CDT), off No. 1.

Svedenskiold begins her Second Round in the same group at 10:42 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, off No. 10.

HOUSTON in NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Svedenskiold will be the third Cougar to compete as an individual at the NCAA Championships during the program's young history.

Leonie Harm qualified for the 2018 and 2016 NCAA Championships while Karen Fredgaard earned the most recent invitation in 2021, tying for 28th for the highest individual finish at the nation's top collegiate event.

HOUSTON in NCAA REGIONALS
With the NCAA Columbus Regional selection this season, Houston has been represented in 10 straight NCAA Regionals dating back to the 2015 season with team appearances in nine of the last 10 years.

The Cougars finished sixth with a score of 886 and fell only five strokes shy of advancing to the NCAA Championships.

It was the second straight season that the Cougars under Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Lasprilla finished sixth at an NCAA Regional, the program's best team finish in the NCAA postseason.
