Women’s Golf Rises to Second at Big 12 Championships

Junior Natalie Saint Germain with Second-Round 67 on Wednesday to tie for individual lead; Final Round tees off Thursday morning
HOCKLEY, Texas – University of Houston Women's Golf junior Natalie Saint Germain posted a 4-under 67 during Wednesday's Second Round to move into a tie for the individual lead at the Big 12 Conference Championships.
Saint Germain drained a team-high six birdies on the 6,259-yard, par-71 course at The Clubs at Houston Oaks to surge 17 places in the standings and join Oklahoma State's Marta Silchenko and TCU's Camille Min-Gaultier at 2-under 140.
As a team, the Cougars finished with a total of 288 for the second straight day and stood in second at 576, two strokes behind #30 Oklahoma State.
The tournament wraps up with the Final Round beginning at 8 a.m., Thursday. Houston begins its Final Round at 9:40 a.m., off No. 1.
Starting off No. 1, Saint Germain moved under par with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 4-5 and overcame a bogey at No. 7 with the third birdie of her first nine at the par-5 eighth hole.
The Prague native added another birdie at No. 11 and rallied from a bogey at No. 14 with a birdie at No. 15 before closing with a birdie on the final hole of her Second Round.
Sophomore Maelynn Kim joined Saint Germain among the Top-10 leaders and was tied for 10th at 144. Junior Moa Svedenskiold stood was tied for 18th at 146 while senior Hyeonji Kang was tied for 34th at 150. Kang posted the team's second-lowest round Wednesday and rose 24 places in the individual standings.
Junior Alexa Saldana was tied for 62nd at 158.
#15 TCU (577), #29 Iowa State (579), #19 Arizona (580), #8 Arizona State (585), BYU (593), #31 UCF (596), Cincinnati (597) and #22 Kansas (597) rounded out the Top-10 leaders.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament features 10 of the nation's Top-40 programs, according to the latest Scoreboard by Clippd national rankings.
