Cullen, Fangli, Peter secure trip to NCAA Championships in Federal Way, Wash.
HOUSTON – Three University of Houston swimmers secured selections for the NCAA Championships, the NCAA and USA Swimming announced Wednesday. The NCAA Championships run March 19-22 in Federal Way, Wash., at the same site as the Big 12 Conference Championships last week.
Â
Freshman Lottie Cullen, senior Henrietta Fangli and junior Virag Peter will represent Houston Swimming at the Championships. Cullen secured spots in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke while Fangli earned a lane in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Peter took a berth in the 200-yard breaststroke. The three hold program records in each event in which they qualified.Â
Â
Cullen placed second in the 100 back and ninth in the 200 back at the Big 12 Championships. While she won the B-Final in the 200 back, her time would have placed her fourth overall in the event. She broke the Houston record in both events at the Phill Hansel Invitational in November and has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week four times this season.
Â
Fangli, who in 2024 earned a trip to the NCAA Championships and was named an All-American in the 100 breast, broke the program record at the NCAA Championships last year as well. She finished second in the 100 breast at the Big 12 Championships.
Â
Peter also placed second in the 200 breast at the Big 12 Championships. She previously broke the team record at the Phill Hansel Invitational in November with a 2:08.72.Â
Â
Three swimmers are the most the team has sent to NCAA Championships since 2020 when Houston would have sent seven swimmers to the meet prior to its cancellation due to COVID-19. Houston is one of five Big 12 schools to send swimmers to NCAAs and has the second most swimmers being represented behind #17 Arizona State's eight.Â
Â
Houston's dive team will have an opportunity to earn a trip to the NCAA Championships next week at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships. The meet runs March 10-12 at the University of Iowa. Â
