Volleyball Will Travel to Dominican Republic this Summer

Cougars participate in first foreign tour under Head Coach David Rehr
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball program is heading abroad this summer for its first foreign tour under Head Coach David Rehr as the team travels to the Dominican Republic for an eight-day trip in June. The exciting trip, which runs from June 11-18, will offer opportunities for the team to train with and compete against Dominican National Teams while being immersed in various aspects of life in the Dominican Republic.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to take this incredible journey this summer," Rehr said. "Foreign tours are an excellent chance for our student-athletes to broaden their horizons while also having the ability to grow together as a team and take their skills to a new level. I can't thank our generous donors enough. Without them, we wouldn't be able to have this opportunity."

ABOUT THE TRIP
Houston starts the trip with four days in Santo Domingo where the team will take the court with the Dominican National Team. The Cougars have to opportunity to compete alongside Dominican National Team players that aren't actively competing in the VNL as well as both the U-21 and U-19 National Teams. The team will also partake in a tour of historic Santo Domingo during the first half of the trip.Â

Following the stay in Santo Domingo, the Cougars head to Punta Cana for training, workouts and team building, including a trip to Isla Saona.Â

ABOUT THE COUGARS
The Cougars have seen historic success under Head Coach David Rehr, including the team's first conference championship since 1999 and a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament (2022 Sweet Sixteen, 2023 Second Round). Rehr has led Houston to a 115-60 (.657) record in his six seasons at the helm, mentoring student-athletes who have earned 21 All-Conference accolades, 12 All-America honors and five positional Player of the Year titles.Â

Returning for Houston next season includes middle blockers Barakat Rahmon and Kellen Morin, who have combined for 359 blocks, as well as right-side Avery Shimaitis and a trio of rising sophomores in Lily Barron, Addisyn Pohl and Coley Shiflet. Joining the Cougars for the 2025 season are four transfers – Emma Nilson, Halle Schroder, Brenya Reid and Alyssa Gonzales – as well as incoming freshman, Aubrey Sears, Tenesyn Frye, Gillian Pitts and Tara Greenberry.Â
