After time as volunteer assistant, technical coordinator, Genovy elevated to assistant coach
HOUSTON – Caitlin Genovy has been promoted to assistant coach of the University of Houston Volleyball team, Head Coach David Rehr announced on Monday. Previously spending time with the Cougars as volunteer assistant and technical coordinator, Genovy was elevated ahead of her fourth season with the Cougars.Â
Â
"I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited to continue growing with the University of Houston Volleyball program," Genovy said. "This team, this city and this community have become home, and I'm honored to step into this new role. I can't wait to keep building on the success we've achieved and help take this program to new heights in the Big 12 Conference."
Â
Genovy spent the 2024 season with the team as Technical Coordinator where she managed all statistical and analytical data for the team, which included coding practices and matches as well as examining player and team trends. Genovy also created scouting reports for opponents and oversaw the team's video operations both at home and on the road.
Â
"Caitlin is someone who has proven her worth as an invaluable asset to our program during her time on staff," Rehr said. "I'm excited to see her continue to grow in a new role while helping the program maintain our success."
Â
Genovy had previously been a member of the Cougar coaching staff as a volunteer assistant for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In her first stint with the Cougars, she had worked primarily with Rehr in coaching the setters. Her first two seasons with Houston were marked with impressive success, including a combined 55-11 record that included the team's first conference championship since 1999 and first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2000 in 2022.
Â
Genovy spent the 2023 season with Davidson as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In her year with the Wildcats, she assisted the team as they posted a 19-10 record including an 11-7 mark in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
Â
Prior to joining Houston, Genovy was a graduate assistant at Indiana State for two seasons, helping the Sycamores at the setter position. At ISU, she assisted in coaching multiple student-athletes to conference awards including Madeline Williams to the MVC All-Tournament Team Spring 2021 and Mallory Keller to the MVC All-Freshman Team Spring 2021. Genovy also aided in coaching the team back to a Missouri Valley Conference Tournament appearance for the 2021 Spring season after a two-year hiatus.
Â
Prior to joining the Sycamore coaching staff, Genovy spent a year playing professional volleyball for Volley-Ball La Rochette in France as the only setter for the team.
Â
Beyond collegiate volleyball, Genovy has also spent time coaching in Canada's youth volleyball system, serving as a coach for Team Ontario in 2017 and 2019. The Stoney Creek, Ontario, native also acted as the assistant coach for Halton Regional Volleyball Club during the 2018-19 season where she helped coach the 16U girls' team to provincial and national titles.
Â
Genovy played collegiately at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. During her five seasons at McMaster, she was a member of two Ontario University Athletics Conference Championships (2014, 2017) and was also a Second Team All-Star (2018).
Â
Genovy graduated from McMaster University in 2018 with a degree in Kinesiology. She also earned her master's degree in physical education with a concentration in coaching from Indiana State in 2021.
