Records Fall on Third Day of Big 12 Championships

Two program records fall while Houston earned three NCAA B-Cuts
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team broke two program records while earning three NCAA B-Cuts on the third day of the Big 12 Conference Championships on Thursday at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Headlining the day, Houston's 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Lottie Cullen, senior Henrietta Fangli, junior Noor El Gendy and junior Liya Goupil placed third with a program-record time of 3:31.95, earning a NCAA B-Cut and toppling the record for the second time this season.
In the individual events, senior Adelaide Meuter placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 53.19, quickly followed by junior Noor El Gendy in sixth (53.32). Senior Abbie Alvarez wrapped up Houston's scoring in the event, earning a 15th place showing with a time of 54.20.
Earlier in the day, Meuter and El Gendy traded program records in the prelims. Meuter swam first, improving her own program record with a mark of 53.29. Minutes later, El Gendy shattered the new program-best with a time of 53.05. Both Meuter and El Gendy secured NCAA B-Cuts with their times during prelims.
Junior Landry Hadder finished sixth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:17.36. Sophomore Nora Hetyei took 10thwith a 4:18.86, the ninth fastest time in team history.
In the 400 IM prelims, freshman Mariana Cote set a personal best with a mark of 4:24.69.
Junior Liya Goupil also earned a sixth place showing in the 200-yard freestyle, narrowly missing out on an NCAA B-Cut with a time of 1:47.05. Goupil's mark improved her fifth-fastest time in program history. Freshman Sienna Bruner placed 17th overall with a personal-best time of 1:48.84 while freshman Alexandra Curcan earned a personal-best in the prelims with a 1:52.81.
Sophomore Michelle McLeod led the way for Houston in the 3-meter springboard event. McLeod recorded a score of 284.30 in the championship finals for seventh place. Behind her, fifth-year Hedda Grelz took eighth place with a 270.30. In the consolation flight, fifth-year Emilia Waters secured 12th overall (269.05) while freshman Caroline Roelen placed 13th (253.50).
Arizona State leads after three days with a score of 898, followed by Arizona (632.5) and Houston (616). Utah sits in fourth with 477.5 points trailed by TCU (468), Cincinnati (461), BYU (449), Kansas (339), Iowa State (232) and West Virginia (231).

Houston continues competition at Big 12 Championships on Friday. Prelims begin at noon CT with finals beginning at 8 p.m. CT. Included in the day's events are the 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle relay.
