Houston Tops Tulane and Rice, Falls to #20 LSU in Baton Rouge

Cougars collect 13 podiums, including two first-place marks, a zone cut and a NCAA cut
BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team picked up two head-to-head wins against Tulane (227-73) and Rice (177-123) but fell to #20 LSU (198-101) in a quad meet at the LSU Natatorium on Saturday.
Houston secured 13 podiums during the meet while two student-athletes earned one zone cut and one NCAA cut.
Junior Evelyn Entrekin scored the first NCAA cut of the season in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.29 for a second-place finish. Freshman Maisy Woloszyn also landed her first zone cut and podium of the season in the 1-meter springboard competition (274.55) finishing in second.
Sophomore Alexia Duncan also made waves as she continues to climb the top 10 program record list. After her performance at the quad meet, she moved up to the eighth top time in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.76) and finished second in the event.
Junior Michelle McLeod swept the diving events placing first in the 1-meter (298.30) and 3-meter (315.95) competitions.
In the 100-yard backstroke, junior Elizabeth Jimenez and Duncan touched the wall side by side landing in second (54.27) and third (54.29) respectively. Red shirt senior Alondra Ortiz also landed in second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.97).
Sophomore Sienna Bruner and seniors Liya Goupil and Virag Peter all placed third in their respective events. Bruner touched the wall in 1:49.54 in the 200-yard freestyle. Goupil made her way through the pack finishing the 100-yard freestyle in 49.91. Peter tapped in at 2:12.05 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The relay teams also had an impressive day finishing in third in both events. The 200-yard relay team of Duncan, Entrekin, senior Noor El Gendy, and Goupil finished at a time of 1:40.50. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Goupil, Bruner, senior Jenna Kerkman, and Jimenez touched the wall at 3:23.25.
