Women’s Basketball Defeats Tulsa in Baha Mar Hoops Consolation Match

Senior guard TK Pitts named to Goombay Division All-Tournament Team
NASSAU, Bahamas – University of Houston Women's Basketball closed out Baha Mar Nassau Hoops action with a 66-61 victory over Tulsa in the Goombay Division consolation match on Sunday inside the Baha Mar Convention Center.
Senior guard TK Pitts was named to the All-Tournament Team as she led the Cougars with 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Graduate guard Briana Peguero followed closely with a season high 16 points and redshirt senior guard Kyndall Hunter had 15 points, including going 4-4 from the charity stripe.
Houston (5-3) shook off a slow start to take a 21-17 lead after the first quarter against Tulsa (5-2). After falling behind 8-1 early, the Cougars settled in with baskets by freshman guard Kayla King, graduate forward Amani Bartlett and Peguero. Hunter sparked a late surge, scoring six points down the stretch.
Pitts took control in the second as she scored 11 of her 17 points, going 4-6 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line to lead 40-33 at the end of the frame.
Both teams exchanged baskets early in the third, but a 5-0 run by Hunter helped the Cougars gain an 11-point lead. Tulsa closed out the quarter with a free throw and a layup, but Houston had a 54-46 lead.
Tulsa used a 7-2 run with five points coming from the free throw line to cut the deficit down to three. Peguero knocked down a jump shot with 1:30 remaining to lead 64-59. Tulsa responded with a basket of their own, but two made free throws by Peguero and junior guard Kierra Merchant made the difference as Houston secured the victory.
