
Six Cougars Named to Midseason All-Texas Team

Houston earns third-most Midseason All-Texas selections in the state
HOUSTON – After starting the 2025 season 5-1, six Houston Football stars have been recognized by Dave Campbell's Texas Football as Midseason All-Texas selections. Three Cougars were named to the Midseason All-Texas First Team with another three on the Second Team on Tuesday, the third-most in the state.

Two-time Big 12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week kicker Ethan Sanchez, the team's team leader in tackles defensive lineman Carlos Allen Jr., and lockdown cornerback Latrell McCutchin Sr., headline the First Team.

Houston's lead running back Dean Connors, lineman Khalil Laufau and safety Jordan Allen are featured on the Second Team.

Carlos Allen Jr., who leads the team with 43 tackles, has the second-most tackles by a defensive lineman in FBS and the most among Power 4 interior linemen. The Atlanta, Ga., native 6+ tackle performances in five consecutive games and has posted 2.5 tackles for loss, third-most on the team.

McCutchin Sr., has posted the sixth-lowest reception percentage among Texas cornerbacks (52.6%), allowing just 10 receptions through six games. The Austin, Texas native's 77.2 defense grade by Pro Football Focus ranks second among Texas cornerbacks with at least 245 snaps played. McCutchin's 25 tackles ranks fifth on the team.

Sanchez, who is the only kicker in the country with multiple four-field goal games this season is second nationally with 14 made field goals and second with 2.33 field goals per game. The Dallas, Ga., native's eight 40+ yard field goals leads the Country.

Connors, who makes the Second Team as a Utility, is Houston's lead rusher with 438 yards – eight rushing yards away from passing the Cougars' top rusher's total from 2024 – has scored four rushing touchdowns while also hauling in a passing touchdown. The Kamuela, Hawai'I native is fifth in the Big 12 Conference in rushing yards.

Laufau has frustrated opposing offensive lines with the team's eighth-most tackles (21) while grading as one of the best run-stoppers in Texas (87.2 – 2nd). Laufau and Allen Jr., give Houston two of the top seven run stopping linemen nationally (Laufau 1st, Allen Jr. 7th).

Jordan Allen is sixth on the team with 23 tackles while grading out as the fourth-best safety in coverage in the state of Texas (82.0). Allen has allowed just five catches on 10 targets with an 11-yard reception the longest pass he has allowed – the shortest passing play allowed with at least 100 coverage snaps played in Texas.
