Dear Cougar Nation:
I hope that you are all having a great week and are looking forward to our huge football match-up against Oklahoma on Saturday. I hope to see many of you in Norman!
After two weeks "on the job" as your Vice President / Director of Athletics, I write today to simply say, thank you.
Thank you for such an incredible welcome for my family and I as we join the Houston community. Since the day I accepted the position, I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of so many in helping me transition professionally to the University and my family as we move to Houston.
Thank you to each and every Coog (both young and old) who has shared with me their favorite UH story or memory in recent weeks. Together, these anecdotes paint a clear picture for me of not only the passion of Cougar Nation, but also the impact that our athletics programs have on our institution and on the greater Houston community.
Thank you to our dedicated and generous supporters and donors who have laid the foundation for success and who are committed to doing more. Your support of our student-athletes and programs is truly remarkable and admirable.
Thank you to our incredible students who claimed more than 6,600 tickets for last Saturday's season opener. Your energy and support were infectious from the tailgate to the stands. No group embodied that passion more than the Spirit of Houston. We appreciate your relentless enthusiasm.
Thank you to our student-athletes, coaches and staff, who have allowed me to pop into practices and meetings, and who have shared with me some of the opportunities and challenges ahead. As I noted at my introductory press conference, I am a former student-athlete, whose life was significantly impacted by coaches and teachers, and my favorite part of the job is being around our incredible students and watching them do what they enjoy.
We have a lot of work ahead of us but we have incredible energy, passion and desire to elevate Houston Athletics and I thank all of you for being along for the ride.
Sincerely,
Eddie
