Georgiades picks up First-Team accolades while Grieve placed on Second Team
HOUSTON – Two University of Houston Volleyball players received year-end recognition from the Big 12 Conference, the league announced as part of its postseason awards on Tuesday. Graduate libero Kate Georgiades was voted to the All-Big 12 First Team for the second consecutive season while graduate outside hitter Angela Grieve was placed on the Second Team.Â

Georgiades collected her fourth career First Team All-Conference honor, the most of any player in Houston history. Grieve received her third All-Conference accolade, previously earning two while at Miami. The Big 12 end-of-year awards were voted on by the league's coaches.Â

ABOUT KATE GEORGIADES
In her final collegiate season, Georgiades continued to shine for Houston. She finished the year with 532 digs, averaging 4.97 per set, both totals leading the Big 12 while ranking 34th and 23rd in the league respectively. The College Station, Texas, native recorded double-digit digs in 127 career matches, including 27 of 28 this season. She also topped 20 digs 55 times in her career with 11 occurrences this season and 30 digs nine times, besting the mark three times in 2024.Â

Georgiades became one of 27 players in NCAA Division I history to surpass 2,500 career digs and completed her eligibility with 2,562, the 22nd most in NCAA Division I history.Â

The graduate completed her eligibility placing second in team history in digs per set (5.07), third in Houston history in total digs (2,335) and seventh in service aces (110). Her 532 digs in 2024 ranked as the 10th most by a Cougar in the current era (post-2008) while her average of 4.97 per set placed her ninth in the current era.Â

Georgiades was previously the 2023 Big 12 Libero of the Year, bringing her career total of the award to three after picking up a pair of honors in the American Athletic Conference. She also earned All-Conference First Team honors in every season with Houston.Â
Georgiades was drafted by the Columbus Fury with the fourth pick of the fifth round of the Pro Volleyball Federation draft earlier this month. She will report to training camp with the team later this month.Â

ABOUT ANGELA GRIEVE
A graduate transfer for Houston, Grieve quickly made an impact with the Cougars in her last year of eligibility. Earning her third career All-Conference Second Team honor, Grieve posted 354 kills in her final year, averaging 3.34 per set. The Jupiter, Fla., native also collected career-highs in both service aces (33) and digs (262) while adding 48 blocks for a total of 414.5 points.Â

Overall, Grieve led Houston in kills, kills per set, attacks (1,103), aces, and points while finishing second in digs, aces per set (0.31) and blocks (7-41/48).Â

Grieve tallied a team-leading 22 matches with 10-or-more kills, bringing her career total to 95 such matches. She also led the Cougars with 11 double-doubles on the year, doubling her career mark.Â

The outside hitter's 33 service aces in 2024 ranked as the team's ninth most in a single season in the current era.Â
