PREVIEW: #6/7 Men’s Hoops Closes Players Era Festival on Saturday

Cougars take on San Diego State at 6 p.m. (CST); Game to air on TNT and SportsTalk 790 AM KBME
LAS VEGAS – The #6/7 University of Houston Men's Basketball program wraps up play at the inaugural Players Era Festival when it meets San Diego State at 6 p.m. (CST) Saturday, in the Third-Place Game inside MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Saturday's game features two of the nation's most consistent programs over the last decade. Both the Cougars and the Aztecs rank among the country's Top 10 teams by wins during the last three, four, five, six, seven and eight years.
The Cougars enter this weekend's contest following a 65-54 win over Notre Dame on Wednesday night. Junior guard Emanuel Sharp led Houston with 17 points and three 3-pointers while sophomore guard Terrance Arceneaux came off the bench to pour in 13 points with three rebounds.
With nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, graduate forward J'Wan Roberts rose higher in the Houston records book. The St. Thomas, V.I., native broke out of a tie with former point guard Jamal Shead and tied the school record held by forward Fabian White Jr. with his 121st career victory as a Cougar.

• In its most recent action, San Diego State dropped a 78-68 decision to Oregon during the second day of the Players Era Festival inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
• Against Oregon, sophomore guard BJ Davis posted a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting with three rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Nick Boyd posted 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting with two rebounds while sophomore guard Miles Byrd added 10 points with a game-high three steals.
• This season, Davis leads San Diego State with 15,6 points per game and ranks second on the team with 1.6 steals per contest. Boyd stands second with 13.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and averages a team-best 2.8 assists per contest.
