Women’s Golf Tied for Third at Schooner Fall Classic

Sophomores Moa Svedenskiold, Alexa Saldana among Top-15 leaders entering Monday’s Final Round
NORMAN, Okla. – University of Houston Women's Golf sophomores Moa Svedenskiold and Alexa Saldana stood among the Top-15 leaders following the Second Round of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
Svedenskiold finished with an even-par 70 on the 6,182-yard course and was tied for ninth at 137 while Saldana enjoyed the Cougars' low round of the day with a 68 and was tied for 13th at 138.
Starting off No. 1, Saldana overcame a bogey at No. 4 and returned to even par with a birdie on the par-4 fifth hole. That would be her only bogey of the day.
The Mexico City, native added another birdie at No. 9 and closed her Second Round with her final birdie of the day at No. 18 to join five others at 2-under.
Svedenskiold drained a pair of birdies in her final five holes of the day and was tied with Shreya Pai (North Texas) and Wake Forest teammates Rachel Kuehn and Mimi Rhodes.
Freshman Maelynn Kim was tied for 23rd at 141 while senior Nicole Abelar was tied for 41st at 144. Freshman Ellen Yates was tied for 82nd at 155 while junior Hyeonji Kang – playing as an individual – was tied for 55th at 146.
Oklahoma (562), Kansas State (562), Oklahoma State (563), Purdue (563), Tulsa (564) and Iowa State (566) rounded out the Top 10.
Oklahoma State's Maddison Hinchon-Tolchart stood atop the individual leaderboard at 132 after shooting 64 Sunday. Carolina Lopez-Chacarra (Wake Forest) and Morgan Ketchum (Virginia Tech) were tied for second at 133 while Lottie Woad (Florida State) and Macy Pate (Wake Forest) were tied for fourth at 134.
Monday's Final Round begins with an 8:30 a.m., split tee start off with the Cougars beginning at 9:20 a.m.

For Monday's Final Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Oklahoma and Kansas State.
Yates begins the day for the Cougars off No. 1 at 9:20 a.m. with Abelar (9:30 a.m.), Kim (9:40 a.m.), Saldana (9:50 a.m.) and Svedenskiold (10 a.m) following. Kang begins her round at 9:50 a.m., off No. 10.
