Senior becomes third Cougar female Athlete of the Week since joining The American
HOUSTON – University of Houston cross country senior Claire Meyer earned her first American Athletic Association Female Athlete of the Week honor on Tuesday after her third-place finish at McNeese's Season Opener meet.Â
"This honor is well deserved for Claire," cross country head coach Ray Stanfield said. "She had a great spring season (on the track) and followed that up with a great summer of training. Good things are coming from this young lady this year."
Â
Meyer becomes just the third Houston female cross country runner to earn Athlete of the Week honors since joining The American. Darby Gauntt (2021) and Maddie Brown (2015) are the other two female Cougars to be named Female Athlete of the Week in cross country.
Â
The senior posted a 10 minutes 3.3 seconds time at McNeese's Season Opener, finishing third overall, just 5.7 seconds off the winner.
