Cougars tip off vs. Knights in American Athletic Conference play at Noon (CST) in Addition Financial Arena
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program hits the road to take on American Athletic Conference rival UCF at noon (CST) Saturday inside Addition Financial Arena.
This will be the Cougars' first true road contest of the season. No. 6/7 Houston claimed a 64-53 win over No. 14/13 Texas Tech on Nov. 29 during the Southwest Showcase inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Saturday's game marks Houston's first action on an opponent's home floor.
The game was originally scheduled to be played on Dec. 15 inside the Fertitta Center in Houston, but COVID-19 issues forced the game to be rescheduled to this weekend.
The Cougars, who have won seven straight games dating back to last season, enter this weekend's game following an impressive 76-50 win over Temple in The American opener for both teams on Tuesday night inside the Fertitta Center.
Junior guard Quentin Grimes led all players with 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds against the Owls. It was The Woodlands, Texas, native's fourth 20-point game in the last five contests.
With his performance, Grimes now leads the Cougars and ranks third in The American with 20.0 points per game. He also stands fifth in the league with 7.7 rebounds per contest and is the only player to rank among The American's Top-Five leaders in both scoring and rebounding.
Senior forward Justin Gorham has been a rebounding force lately, averaging 14.0 rebounds per game over the last two contests. The Columbia, Md., native tied a Fertitta Center record with 16 rebounds in Sunday's win over Alcorn State and added 12 boards in Tuesday's win over Temple.
Gorham now leads Houston and ranks second in The American with 8.3 rebounds per contest. He also leads the league and ranks second nationally with 4.8 offensive rebounds per game.
Sophomore guard Marcus Sasser returned to the Houston lineup earlier this week and ranks second among the Cougars with 14.3 points per game. Freshman guard Tramon Mark stands third on the team with 13.5 points per game.
Senior guard DeJon Jarreu does a little of everything for Houston, averaging 8.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and a team-best 3.5 assists per game. The New Orleans native is looking to become only the only the eighth player in school history with 100+ assists over 3+ seasons.
