HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program continues a busy stretch in their schedule when it opens American Athletic Conference play against Temple at 7 p.m., Tuesday, inside the Fertitta Center.
Following a more than two-week break due to COVID-19 issues, the Cougars returned to action with an 88-55 win over Alcorn State on Sunday afternoon. It was the first of four games in 10 days for the Cougars.
With Sunday's home win, Houston collected its 14th consecutive win inside the Fertitta Center, tying the facility record.
Junior guard Quentin Grimes led all players with 27 points for his second straight 20-point effort and added 10 rebounds for the first double-double of his career.
He leads the Cougars and ranks third in The American with 19.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and is the only player in the league to rank among the Top-Three leaders in both categories.
Junior forward Reggie Chaney made his first start in the Scarlet & White and poured in a career-high 18 points with six rebounds.
Senior forward Justin Gorham grabbed a season and Fertitta Center-record 16 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards, in the win. Gorham broke the old record of 15 rebounds set by guard Nate Hinton against UCF on Jan. 3.
