Cougars take on Braves in Fertitta Center in recent addition to schedule
HOUSTON – After more than two weeks away from competition, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program returns to action when it plays host to Alcorn State at 3 p.m., Sunday, inside the Fertitta Center.
The Cougars, who moved to No. 6 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll earlier this week, will compete for the first time since taking a 77-67 win over South Carolina on Dec. 5 inside the Fertitta Center. The team paused all activities on Dec. 8 following COVID-19 issues, forcing the postponement of three games and the cancellation of another.
Houston welcomes Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and Assistant Coach Kellen Sampson back to the sidelines for Sunday's game. The Sampson duo was forced to miss the Cougars' win over South Carolina due to COVID-19 issues.
Against the Gamecocks, junior guard Quentin Grimes led all players with 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. With that performance, The Woodlands, Texas, native moved into the team lead and into third in the American Athletic Conference with 17.8 points per game.
Senior guard DeJon Jarreau leads the Cougars with 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, standing third in the league with his rebounding total.
Freshman guard Tramon Mark has made an impact in his first collegiate season and ranks third among the Cougars with 15.0 points per game. The Dickinson, Texas, native has already been named The American's Freshman of the Week twice.
