Cougars Post 14 podium finishes in first day of action in Baton Rouge

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team posted 14 podium finishes, including four first-place finishes in the opening day of action in Baton Rouge against No. 25 LSU and Rice. Action resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

For the third straight week the Cougars faced a ranked opponent, as well as an opponent from the SEC.
Laura Laderoute continues to be a mainstay on the podium for Houston with three top-three finishes that include one first-place finish.
Laderoute won the 100 Backstroke with a time of 54.77, finished third in the 200 Backstroke at 2:01.02 and closed out her day with a second-place finish in the 200 Individual Medley at 2:03.51
Ioanna Sacha continues to make her mark, posting a pair of top-three finishes, including top honors in the 200 Backstroke at 1:59.95 the sixth-fastest time in program history. Sacha finished second in the 100 Backstroke behind Laderoute at 55.85.
Peyton Kondis continues to anchor the Cougars in the Breaststroke, winning the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:17.42, followed by Gaby Jimenez in third-place at 2:18.43. Kondis finished third in the 100 Breaststroke at 1:03.67
In the 200 Freestyle, Zarena Brown led the charge for Houston, winning the event with a time of 1:49.30. Brown finished third in the 100 Freestyle at 51.21.
In the 500 Freestyle Samantha Medlin led Houston with a time of 5:00.62 for first-place.
