Houston Wraps Up Regular Season at Bronco Invite

Sorensen paces Cougar women with top-40 finish
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Cross Country teams wrapped up regular season action with their first meet outside of Texas at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, on Saturday in Santa Clara, Calif.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Action began with an 8,000-meter race for the men which saw freshman Jemal Wote cross the line first for the Cougars. Running for just the second time collegiately, Wote entered the chute and crossed the line in 25:09.8 to finish 84th.
Freshman Gabe Armijo crossed the line just behind Wote, finishing the 8K in 25:12.7 to place 90th, while sophomore Devin Fahey ran 25:16.0 to finish 96th. Redshirt freshman Nicholas Fernandes finished the race in 107th after running a time of 25:22.7, while freshman Devin Vallejo-Bannister rounded out the scoring with a time of 25:43.2 to finish 128th.
As a team, the men finished 18th with 433 points.
The women would follow with a 6,000-meter race, where junior Meredith Sorensen crossed the line first for the Cougars for the third consecutive meet. Sorensen finished inside the top-40 after running through the chute in 21:17.4 to place 37th.
Senior Britani Gonzales would be the next Cougar to cross the finish line, taking 42nd in 21:20.6, while junior Jahnavi Schneider's time of 21:44.7 placed her 67th. Senior Jennifer Dunlap and freshman Regan Lobodzinski capped the scoring for the Cougars, with Dunlap placing 99th in 22:01.5, while Lobodzinski ran 22:34.6 to place 148th.
The women's team finished 14th with 347 points.
