HOUSTON - Houston Volleyball swept Houston Baptist 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-23) in the Marriott Houston Westchase Invitational finale on Saturday night inside Sharp Gym.
The Cougars took home tournament runner-up honors behind a 2-1 record, as juniors Shelby Harper and Brianna Lynch were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.
The victory signifies the first for head coach Kaddie Platt over HBU (1-2), a school she coached at for 17 seasons (1995-2011) prior to taking over the Cougars in 2012.
"This was a fun match for me, personally," Platt said. "(HBU) was my home for a long time. I went to school here, played volleyball here and coached here for 17 seasons. The entire tournament was well run and there was great hospitality.
"Tonight was a great match. HBU battled us really well. They are a scrappy team, so it was a great match for us to be able to improve on a lot of little things. We got better as the match went a long, which is exactly what we wanted to do."
Lynch and freshman Megan Duncan each recorded double-figure kills for a third straight match. Lynch finished with a season-high 15 kills and .542 attack percentage, while Duncan posted 10 kills and nine digs.
Freshman libero Katie Karbo led all with 12 digs.
Setters Keandra McCardell and Katie Krebs finished with 18 and 17 assists, respectfully.
The Cougars swung a season-best .313 clip, limiting HBU to a .137 efficiency.
