HOUSTON -- The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Cross Country teams crossed the halfway point of their 2016 season in impressive fashion after Maddie Brown took home the HBU Invitational individual title, on Friday.

Women's Race: 5,000 meters
Men's Race: 4 miles
Women's Top Finisher: Maddie Brown | 1st, 18:06.05
Men's Top Finisher: Alex Arnold | 14th 22:34.15
BROWN LEADS THE WOMEN
With the Alabama Crimson Classic just a week away, the Cougars used Friday's event to fine tune before heading to Tuscaloosa, Ala. Just three women were in action including Brown who took gold, followed by Kyndall Tyler who placed 13th in 20:31.59 and Debra Taylor who ran 22:39.67 in the 5K to finish 27th.
A COUGAR PAIR
Just two Cougar men competed in the 4-mile race of the HBU Invitational. Alex Arnold crossed first for the Coogs in 22:34.15 to claim 14th, while Caleb Beacham ran 24:06.33 for 18th.

UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars face arguably the toughest task of their season so far when they travel out of state for the first time this season for the Alabama Crimson Classic on Oct. 14, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Crimson Classic will serve as Houston's final meet before the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships at the end of October.
