Cougars Drop 3-0 Decision at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. -- The University of Houston Volleyball team fell 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 21-25) at Tulsa on Sunday afternoon inside Reynolds Center.
With the decision, the Cougars dropped to 5-18 overall and 0-12 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Golden Hurricane improved to 15-9 overall and 4-8 in league action.
Junior outside hitter Brianna Lynch led the Houston attack with nine kills. Setters Katie Krebs and Keandra McCardell totaled 14 and 12 assists, respectfully. Libero Katie Karbo recorded 12 digs, while junior outside hitter Sarah Afflerbaugh finished with 10 digs and seven kills.
Tulsa's Erica Bohannon led all with 13 kills. Setters Ashton Anderson and Mariah Pardo recorded 22 and 11 assists, respectfully. Libero Brooke Berryhill dug up a match-high 18 balls.
The Golden Hurricane outhit Houston .208-.147, holding a 49-42 lead in digs and 8-5 mark in blocks.
Both traded points late into the opening set sitting tied at 17-17. After a service error gave the Cougars an 18-17 advantage, Tulsa responded with an 8-2 run to take the set, 25-20.
The second set quickly proved to be a back-and-forth affair, as both teams swapped the lead seven times and pulled even at 10 different points. Tied 21-21, a Bohannon kill and two Houston errors gave the Golden Hurricane set point. However, Tulsa recorded back-to-back attack errors to pull the Cougars within one point until another Bohannon kill finally closed the set at 25-23.
In the third set, the Golden Hurricane jumped out to a 13-9 lead. Junior middle blocker Brianna Gardner recorded two of her six total kills in the match to fuel a 5-1 run, as Houston tied things up at 14-14. Unfortunately, Tulsa answered with a 10-4 run to arrive at match point, later taking the set 25-21 to close the match in straight sets.

The Cougars will play their next two matches inside Athletics/Alumni Center hosting Temple on Nov. 4 and UConn on Nov. 6.
