Cougars Ready for Alabama Crimson Classic

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will have one final tune up before the American Athletic Conference Championships, when they head east to the Alabama Crimson Classic, on Friday, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Where: Harry Pritchett Running Course | Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Men's Race: 9 a.m. | 8,000 meters
Women's Race: 9:45 a.m. | 6,000 meters
WHO WILL BE THERE?
The Cougars will compete against host Alabama as well as Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Ole Miss, Rice (men only), Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss (women only), Tennessee, Troy and UAB (women only).
WHERE SHE LEFT OFF
Maddie Brown will be looking to pick up where she left off last week after she won the HBU Invitational in Sugar Land. Brown finished the 5,000-meter race in 18:06.05 to beat Rice's Fabiola Andujar-Perez by over 12 seconds to claim the individual crown. Brown's win was her second top-10 finish this season, and she has placed inside the top-15 in all three of her races in 2016.
BACK ON TRACK
After missing the HBU Invitational to prepare for the Crimson Classic, sophomore G.J. Reyna will be back on the track in Alabama. Reyna has been the men's top finisher in each of the three races he has competed in, including top-10 finishes in both the SFA Preview (8th, 15:50.22) and the Rice Invitational (9th, 19:25.10).
BACK TO BAMA
The trip to Tuscaloosa will be Houston's first since the 2013 season. In that edition of the Crimson Classic, the men took ninth overall. Brian Barraza and Yonas Tesfai were the top finishers with Barraza taking 15th at 25:13.37 and Tesfai right on his heels at 25:14.59 in 16th.
