PREVIEW: Volleyball Opens Homestand Thursday

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Volleyball team will continue American Athletic Conference play with two home matches hosting Cincinnati in a 7 p.m. match on Thursday and East Carolina in a noon tilt on Saturday inside Athletics/Alumni Center.
The Cougars (5-12, 0-6 American) enter Thursday looking to snap an eight-match losing streak. Houston fell to both Yale and host Rice in the Rice Adidas Invite II to close out non-conference play and have since opened league play with an 0-6 record.

• Junior setter Keandra McCardell moved up two pegs in the Houston record books for career assists last week. The native of Missouri City, Texas, posted 20 assists against UCF to move past Kelsey King (2,493; 2005-08) for eighth all-time and followed with 35 assists at USF to jump ahead of LaShelle Dobson (2,540; 1985-88) for seventh all-time with 2,544 career assists.
• The Cougars, who are 25-39 all-time in American play, trail Cincinnati 8-10 (Sets: 31-36) and are 2-5 (Sets: 11-17) when facing the Bearcats at home. Houston leads ECU 16-3 (Sets: 51-18) in the all-time series and is 6-1 (Sets: 20-6) against the Pirates at home.
• Houston leads the American Athletic Conference and ranks 37th in the country with 1.54 aces per set, also ranking 68th with 100 total aces.
• Freshman libero Katie Karbo ranks third in the American Athletic Conference averaging 4.43 digs per set.
