Volleyball Takes Second at Texas Tech Tourney

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The University of Houston Volleyball team (2-1) finished second place in the Texas Tech Fall Invitational as they dropped in four sets (31-29, 15-25, 20-25, 23-25) to Texas Tech (3-0) Saturday afternoon.
After trailing 22-18 in first set, Cougars rallied on a 5-1 run to tie the game 23-23 and force a Texas Tech timeout. From there, both teams went point-for-point until three straight kills by the Cougars sealed the win 31-29 for Houston.
But Texas Tech took three straight sets to win the match, 3-1.
Freshman outside hitter Brookah Palmer led the Cougars with 26 kills, hitting .258 and tallied 13 digs. The match marked her second double-double and second game with 20+kills of the season. Redshirt Freshman Chenelle Walker picked up her first double-digit kill game of the season with 11 kills, hitting .286.
Libero Olivia O'Dell posted 28 digs, a new career high for the senior. Sophomore Keandra McCardell tallied her second double-double of the season with 33 assists and 15 digs.
Brookah Palmer and Hunter Wise were named to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding showings over the weekend.

Houston Volleyball returns the court next weekend as the Cougars travel to Lafayette, La., for the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette. The Cougars are set to face Nicholls State on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Houston will play Jackson State at 10 a.m. and close the tournament with UL-Lafayette at 4 p.m.
