INDIVIDUAL ALL-ACADEMIC | TEAM ALL-ACADEMIC
HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Cross Country teams were each named 2015 USTFCCCA All-Academic teams, while sophomore Brian Barraza was named to the USTFCCCA Individual All-Academic team, the organization announced Wednesday.
Overall, 226 women's teams and 179 men's teams earned the All-Academic honors by having at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. The women's team compiled a 3.43 team GPA while the men tallied a 3.36 for the fall semester.
Barraza was one of only 91 men's Division I cross country athletes to earn All-Academic honors by compiling a grade point average of at least 3.25 and finishing in the top-15 at regionals or earning All-American honors at the national meet.
In the classroom, the El Paso, Texas native earned a 3.86 grade point average, while his fourth place finish at the South Central Regional earned him a spot at the national meet and an eventual role on the USTFCCCA Individual All-Academic Team.
Barraza is just the second Cougar to be named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team and the first since current Cross Country Head Coach Steve Magness claimed a spot in 2007, after also registering a 3.86 GPA and an 11th place finish at the South Central Region.
