PREVIEW: Volleyball to Host Salute To Service Match Sunday

HOUSTON â€" Houston Volleyball continues American Athletic Conference play as the Cougars are set to play UConn and Temple this weekend inside the Athletics/Alumni Center.
The Cougars (15-9, 5-7 American) are set to host UConn on Friday at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Houston welcomes Temple for the Salute to Service match. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
During Sunday's Salute to Service Match, all former or active duty military will receive half-price admission ($4) with a military ID. Those who show up in uniform, will receive free admission.

« Houston Volleyball enters the weekend off a 0-2 week at home in the opening week of round two of conference play. The Cougars dropped a three-set match to UCF on Friday before falling in five to USF on Sunday.
« Senior libero Olivia O'Dell tallied 34 digs on the weekend, averaging 4.25 digs per set. She has totaled 538 digs on the season and jumps to seventh in school history.
« Freshman outside hitter Brookah Palmer recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 14 digs against USF on Sunday.
« The Cougars posted a season-high of 14 service aces against the USF Bulls. The previous season high was 11 coming vs. Jackson State (Sept. 5) during the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic in Lafayette, La.
« Houston opened the 2015 season 10-2 heading into conference play. This is the best start since the 1989 season when the program opened 12-2 leading into Southwest Conference play.
« Houston posted a record of 13-3 after 16 matches for the first time since the 1994 season. The 1994 team went on the win the Southwest Conference regular season, the SWC tournament and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.
UCONN HUSKIES
UConn (13-10, 7-5 American) enters the weekend after sweeping Memphis and grabbing a five-set win over Cincinnati on the road. The Huskies are on a six-game win streak dating back to Oct. 14.

TEMPLE OWLS
Temple (17-7, 8-4 American) enters the weekend after a 1-1 weekend on the road. The Owls fell in four sets at Cincinnati and picked up a four-set win over Memphis.

DIG IT OUT - OLIVIA O'DELL
Senior Olivia O'Dell jumped straight to the top of the record books and national stat leaderboards in back-to-back weeks this season.
O'Dell posted a record-breaking 32 digs in a three-set match vs. Cincinnati (Oct.18), tying the nation's best in that category. She also set a new school and conference record with 47 digs in a five-set win over Tulane (Oct. 7). She currently leads the nation for most digs in a single match (five sets).
For the season totals, she moved up to top 10 nationally in total digs and digs per set.

O'Dell has totaled 538 digs, averaging 5.72 digs per set. She moves into the top 10 in school history for digs in a single season and drops to third in the record books for digs per set.
She has tallied 20+digs in 14 matches and double-digit dig performances in all 24 matches this season. O'Dell has also reached 30+ digs in three matches and 40+ digs in one match this season.

Brookah Palmer
Freshman outside hitter Brookah Palmer has been a great six-rotation addition for the Cougars. She has posted 20+kills in five matches including one 30+ kill match, double-digit kills in 23 matches and has recorded 10 double-doubles so far this season.
Palmer was named the first Offensive Player of the Week for the 2015 season following her outstanding opening weekend.
