Houston Volleyball Defeats Tulane in Four

HOUSTON â€" Three Cougars tallied double-digit kills to lead Houston in a four-set win (25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17) over Tulane Wednesday night.
The Cougars improved to 18-11, 8-9 in The American Athletic Conference while Tulane dropped to 9-20, 3-14 in league play.
Houston jumped out to a 2-0 lead heading into intermission. Head Coach Kaddie Platt called a timeout as the Cougars trailed 18-11 in the third set. The Cougars went on a 6-0 run to pull within three, forcing a Tulane timeout. But, errors plagued the Cougars attack as Tulane claimed a 25-23 win in set three.
Set four was all Houston as the Cougars hit .318 while holding the Green Wave to .029 hitting average. The Cougars claimed set four and the match win with a 25-17 victory.
Junior transfer Claire McCown led the Cougars with a season high 19 kills, hitting .326. Freshman outside hitter Brookah Palmer followed as she recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 17 kills and 10 digs. Redshirt Freshman Chenelle Walker also had 11 kills with a team high .455 hitting average. She also posted six blocks, tying her career best of three solo blocks against the Green Wave.
Senior libero Olivia O'Dell led the Cougars with 22 kills in the four-set win. She has now tallied 631 digs for the season, just 23 digs shy of third in school history. O'Dell now has 1,497 career digs ranking sixth all time.

Houston closes the home slate on Friday as the Cougars welcome East Carolina for Senior Day. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Following the match, the team will honor its four seniors, Olivia O'Dell, Sophie Paine, Destiny Patterson and Courtney Smith.
