Cougar Comeback Falls Just Short at Memphis

HOUSTON -- The Houston Cougar Women's Soccer program fell just shy in their comeback bid, dropping a 2-1 decision against American Athletic Conference foe Memphis on Thursday, in Memphis, Tenn.
"We are so close, and we're doing some really good things," Head Coach Chris Pfau said. "I am happy with where we are and how we are playing. The last couple of years we just defended for 90 minutes, and hoped the other team had a bad game. Now we are playing with these teams and creating some great opportunities."
Sophomore Selena Peters scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, while senior goalkeeper Jordan Brown collected seven saves to move into fifth all-time (129) on the Houston career saves list passing Erin Ferguson (128).
The Tigers found the scoreboard in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead in the first half when Marie Levasseur played a ball down on a long cross from Elysia Masters. Levasseur was able to finish for her third goal of the season.
Peters' goal came in the second half and tied the score at 1-1 in the 55th minute. Senior Lexa Green played a through-ball into Peters who was able to dribble past the keeper for the score. Peters now has a team-high nine points on the season, while Green picked up her second assist on the year to give her eight points.
Levasseur found the back of the net again almost four minutes later to give the Tigers the lead for good. Sydney Kingston took a shot, which Brown was able to turn away, before Levasseur played the rebound for her second goal of the night.
It is frustrating the way we are losing, but it is correctable," Pfau said. "What I want to see now is us just going out there with a commitment to win and a commitment to each other!"
