Volleyball Captures Second Place with Win over McNeese

HOUSTON - The University of Houston Volleyball team wrapped up the Big Daddy's Invitational with a four-set win (25-16, 20-25, 25-13, 25-20) over host team McNeese State to finish second in the tournament.
Houston (4-2, 0-0 AAC) took a big 25-16 win over the Cowgirls in set one. McNeese State responded with a 25-20 win in set two. In the third set of the match, the Cougars regrouped and held McNeese State to just .026 hitting average (seven kills, six errors).
The Cougars sealed the deal with a 25-20 win in set four.
Senior right side Cortney Warren registered 18 kills and a .324 against the Cowgirls. This match marks her fourth double-digit kill match for the season. In all four matches, Warren has averaged a .300 or better.
Kadi Kullerkann picked up her sixth double-digit kill match of the season, recording 16 kills and three blocks. Kullerkann now has 117 kills on the season, more than quadruple the amount after six matches last season.
Sophomore middle blocker Hunter Wise knocked 10 kills against McNeese State, recording a .769 hitting average. Freshman setter Keandra McCardell was one dig away from her second double-double of the season. She had 46 assists, nine digs and two blocks in the final match of the tournament.
UP NEXT
Houston returns home to host the third annual Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup Friday and Saturday. The Cougars face off with Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. on Friday to kick off the tournament. On Saturday, Houston takes on Sam Houston State at 11 a.m. followed by a match against Louisiana-Lafayette at 3 p.m. The Cougars will also host a free clinic for all students eighth grade and under following the tournament.
