Brown is a 6-3 post player out of Tulsa, Okla., and East Central HS. An athletic scorer and all-around presence on the low block, Brown averaged 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks per game as a junior in 2013-14, when East Central advanced to the championship game of the OSSAA Class 5A State Tournament.
The daughter of Tamara Burrell, Brown is ranked as a 3-star prospect and the 17th-best post player in the Class of 2015 by ESPN Hoopgurlz. She's also ranked as one of the top-five players in all of Oklahoma by ESPN.
"We expect Shay to come in and play early," said Hughey. "She loves to bang around the rim, and we are looking forward to her physicality in the paint. She's going to be a big contributor for us right from the beginning of her time in a Houston uniform."
Hawkins is a 5-10 guard from Moore, Okla., and Southmoore HS. She brings athleticism, scoring ability and versatility to the Cougar roster, and she averaged 19.2 points per game during a strong junior season.
The Southmoore product is the daughter of Smeitha Hawkins. She is ranked as the 69th-best Class of 2015 guard by ESPN Hoopgurlz, and she is a 3-star prospect.
"I expect MoMo to come in and be one of our best all-around players with her size, athleticism and ability to play multiple positions," said Hughey. "We are going to expect a lot from her early in her career."
