Brian Barraza Named Conference Athlete of the Week

HOUSTON - Freshman Brian Barraza was named the first American Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning, for his performance during the season opening meet in Waco last weekend.
Barraza won his first collegiate race at the Baylor Twilight Invitational on Aug. 30 with a time of 18:19.9. His competition included runners from Texas, Baylor and Texas A&M. The squad finished fifth overall with 114 points. North Texas won the meet with 37 points.
Houston Cross Country competes in the Justin F. Cooper Memorial Rice Invitational held Sept. 13.
