HOUSTON - Four Cougars recorded double figure kills, but it wasn't enough as Baylor topped the University of Houston volleyball team in five tough sets (13-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-23, 13-15) during the final match of the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup Saturday evening.
Things started slow for the Cougar offense, committing eight hitting errors. Houston (7-7) battled in the second set and tied up the match 1-1. The Cougars recorded 11 kills as a team and only four errors, causing Baylor (7-8) to commit 12 errors, recording a -.051 hitting percentage.
The Bears quickly gained a 2-1 advantage in the third set holding Houston to just 19 points. The Cougars tied the match once again, leading Baylor the entire fourth set. Houston won the fourth set 25-23 on a huge kill by Kadi Kullerkann. The Bears sealed the win putting away seven kills, holding Houston to a .133 hitting percentage.
For the weekend, Houston has won every even numbered set that is played in the visiting court.
Freshman Sarita Mikals notched her 10th double figure match of the season with 18 kills scoring 18.5 points. Emily Howard and Kullerkann each recorded 14 kills against Baylor while Cortney Warren had 12. Libero Natalie Keck marked a season high 23 digs.
