FORT WORTH - A heartbreaking five-game loss against Stephen F. Austin (26-24, 19-25, 10-25, 25-21, 10-15) rounded out tournament play for the University of Houston volleyball team during the TCU Nike/Molten Invitational Saturday evening.
The Cougars fall to 7-4 on the season while SFA improves to 8-4.
Houston started off the match with a battle during the first set, going point-for-point with the LadyJacks. Back-to-back kills by Kadi Kullerkann pushed the Cougars to a win 26-24.
In games two and three SFA out-blocked Houston 9.0-3.0 total team blocks. The Cougars battle back in the fourth set recording 5.0 team blocks and forcing six attack errors by the LadyJacks.
Houston started off strong tying up the score 2-2, but fell 15-10 after a 13-8 rally by SFA.
Four Cougar players recorded double figures in kills. Emily Howard led the Cougars with 15 kills and a .520 hitting percentage, a season high for the middle. Cortney Warren followed with 11 kills while Kullerkann added 10 kills.
Sarita Mikals notched her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 15 digs. Libero Natalie Keck dug out 21 balls, the most this season.
Kullerkann also earned a spot on the all-tournament team for her performance this weekend. In the 15 sets played, she recorded 39 kills 10 blocks and 47.5 points for the Cougars.

Houston Volleyball returns to the court next weekend for the season home opener hosting the 2013 Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup Sept. 20-21. Baylor, North Texas and LSU travels to Houston for the round robin tournament.
