Volleyball Suffers First Loss Of Season

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The University of Houston volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season. The Cougars fell to Texas State in a three-set match finale of the Delta Zeta Classic in San Marcos Saturday evening.
Houston (2-1) falls to 25-5 in the all-time series record against Texas State. In the last meeting, the Bobcats (4-0) defeated the Cougars 3-1 in 2009.
The Cougars finished second in the tournament, losing the championship game to Texas State. SMU finished third winning two of three matches, and Quinnipiac was fourth and winless during the tournament.
Freshman Sarita Mikals earned her third start of the season. She led the Cougars with 11 kills (.188 hitting percentage), scoring 11.5 points and recording six digs.
Cortney Warren had six kills against the Bobcats. She earned a spot on the Delta Zeta Classic tournament team.
Junior Natalie Keck recorded 17 of the Cougars 36 digs. She received the Most Valuable Libero honor on the tournament team.

Houston faces a midweek match at Texas Southern Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. The team then travels to Lafayette, La. for the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic hosted by University of Louisiana-Lafayette. The Cougars will play in one match Friday, Sept. 6 against Alcorn State at 4 p.m. On Saturday, the team plays in the first and last matches of the day meeting Nicholls State at 11 a.m. and host team Louisiana at 6 p.m.
