CINCINNATI - The University of Houston volleyball team quickly swept the University of Cincinnati in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars improve to 16-12 for the season, 8-5 in the American Athletic Conference. Cincinnati continues its season with only one win (1-26, 1-12).
Houston offense had its best showing in set two on the match as the Cougars hit .400 with 15 kills and only three errors. As a team, Houston had only 14 hitting errors for the match, tying the fourth lowest of the season. The Cougars hit .257, the best this season against conference opponents.
Middle blockers Courtney Smith and Kaiti Waters had the best hitting percentages on the team. Smith led with a .500 (3-0-6) and two blocks, Waters had .444 (4-0-9), four blocks and three aces.
Offensively, two Cougars hit double figure kills against the Bearcats. Sarita Mikals led with 13 kills, nine digs and a solo block. Cortney Warren had her second best hitting average of the season with .423 (12-1-26), two digs and two blocks.
