Volleyball Heads To UCF, UTEP For Pair Of Matches

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team heads on the road this weekend for the first of its final two road trips during the 2011 regular season when it travels to UCF and UTEP for rematches against the Knights and Miners.
Houston opens the weekend with a trip to Orlando to take on the Knights at 6 p.m., Friday, before closing out the weekend against UTEP at 1 p.m., Sunday. Fans can follow both matches through the Gametracker link at UHCougars.com.
The Cougars played both teams earlier this season at the Athletics/Alumni Center. Junior Katie Norris recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win over the Miners on Oct. 14. Senior Lucy Charuk followed that up with 23 kills to knock off UCF 3-1 on Oct. 16.
UH, currently on a six-match win streak, enters the weekend with a 16-5 record and a 9-2 mark in Conference USA play. Charuk leads the team with 250 kills and a .412 hitting percentage. She ranks seventh in the NCAA in hitting percentage and 27th with a 1.29 block per set average. Freshman Caitlin Ogletree ranks 20th in the NCAA with an 11.20 assist per set average.
ABOUT UCF
Houston opens the weekend with a match against UCF on Friday. The Cougars are 8-0 all-time against the Knights after their win earlier this season in Houston.
UCF enters the weekend with a 13-9 record and a 5-6 mark in C-USA action. Angelica Crump leads the team with 336 kills. Tory McCutcheon has a team-high 61 blocks, and Rachel Vukson paces the Knights with 946 assists. The Knights are 2-2 in their last four matches.
ABOUT UTEP
The Cougars make a trip to El Paso to play UTEP (16-8, 6-5 C-USA) on Sunday. Houston is 11-4 all-time against the Miners, including the 3-1 win earlier this season at the Athletics/Alumni Center. Xitlai Herrera and Bridget Logan lead the Miners with 279 and 277 kills, respectively. Malia Patterson paces the team with 894 assists, and Stephanie Figueroa has a team-high 415 digs. After opening C-USA play with a 6-1 record, the Miners are 1-3 in their last four matches.
UP NEXT
Following the weekend on the road, Houston will return to the Athletics/Alumni Center for two-straight weekends. During the home stand, the Cougars will play two matches against Marshall, Nov. 4-5, before matches against SMU and Tulsa.
