HOUSTON - The largest turnout in the University of Houston's Cougar Classic High School Invitational resulted in a successful race day on Saturday morning.
The UH Intramural Fields fielded more than 1,500-area high school and junior high runners from more than 50 schools. None of the 3200m high school races saw fewer than 90 runners while some races had more than 150 participants.
On the junior high side, 90 boys and 72 girls lined up against each other for the 1600m competition.
Houston cross country coach Ryan Turner put on the event and will now switch his mindset back to collegiate racing, as he and his team prepare to host the Johnny Morriss UH Invitational on Friday, Sept. 3.
