ASSISTANT COACH Wade Scott
Opening Statement:
"It was a good game. We had some times when we eased up and it showed but we were able to fight through it and come away with the win. It wasn't as good of a game as on Thursday night [against UTEP] because this was a much tougher game. We were playing the number one team in our league so we had to play hard for 40 minutes and for the most part I thought we did a good job. I was please with how we played defensively. There were a few times that we broke down and let people get shots off that we shouldn't have, but we'll take this win and try to keep the momentum going. We have a tough one against Rice, which is going to be a rivalry game on Thursday, and we're going to have to bring it even more."
On Porsche Landry:
"Porsche played really well tonight. Defensively, she did a tremendous job against Roshaunda Barnes. She was able to get to the basket which created a lot of problems [for Tulane] because they had to rotate and help. The only thing I would say negatively about her game tonight is that she was some times too passive in looking to pass when she was right at the basket. She has to put that thing up there, but for the most part she did a great job."
On the win:
"This was a huge win. East Carolina just beat Memphis and East Carolina has the tiebreaker over us so we have to keep winning. This game was huge because if we had lost, East Carolina would have been back ahead of us and we'd have been in the fifth spot [in C-USA rankings] instead of the fourth spot. With this win, we have the fourth spot right now. That puts even more pressure on Thursday's game against Rice. It was huge in the fact that East Carolina came up with the big win and we're trying to get in the top four. With our bench the way it is and our team only having nine players, a day's rest would probably be beneficial to us at this point in time."
On the balance scoring attack:
"I think our team is doing a very good job of finding that next pass and being able to hit that shot. It's a lot easier to score when nobody is in your face. The balanced scoring makes everybody an option and from an opponent standpoint it's hard to focus on just one player because you've go to account for everybody because everybody has a chance to score on you."
On Tulane:
"You're never going to be number one in any league if you can't come back. That's the one thing about Tulane. You knew that they were going to be due for a couple of runs. What we wanted to do was make those runs 4-6 points instead of 10-15 points. So we had to expect it or this lead would be a lot harder to hold on too. We had a good game against UTEP and one day to prepare for a tough Tulane team and then we came out and played that next day."
On the team:
With the amount of people that we have on the team right now, the bench is small and those legs start to get a little heavy. For the most part, especially in these last five or six games, Courtney Taylor, Porsche Landry, Brittany Mason, Lesslee Mason and Brittney Scott have all logged a lot of minutes so you are going to have some drop off. On the flip side of that, I thought Roxana Button came up and did a tremendous job off the bench. Ashlee' Joseph has given us a great lift and so has Jasmine Johnson. They are able to come in the game and help us keep or extend a lead and that is what you have to have. This is a very good team, right now, as far as everybody understanding their role and that they are accountable and responsible for their own performance.
SOPHOMORE GUARD Porsche Landry
On how she played:
"I thought I played well in the beginning. In the second half, I started off really slow, but I got the encouragement from my teammates, and I picked up the pace again and everything came from my defense. I played more aggressive in the second half."
On the team's balanced scoring:
"At times, we were too passive and passing around the ball too much but sharing the ball is what we do best."
On the different between the last two games and to the rest of the season:
"Our warm up; it has made a big difference about how we started our game."
JUNIOR FORWARD Courtney Taylor
On her 19 rebounds:
"I didn't notice I had that many rebounds until close to the end of the second half. I couldn't make a lay up so I focused on rebounds."
On Tulane's tight defense:
"There were hands everywhere. They would swarm you the second you got a rebound and it would seem like there were three people on you. I've made a name for myself, so I have to expect them to come at me full force each time."
On the difference between the last two games and the rest of the season:
"We have been focusing harder before the game. You have to have the mind set to want to win. Sometimes we have been lazy or you could look in everybody's eyes and see that they are not ready to play. But, the past two games everyone has been focused."
