Head Coach Todd Buchanan
On his initial thoughts following the 71-59 victory against UTSA
"The first thing I would like to do is thank my staff. They did a really good job of preparing us collectively. They did a good job of helping us, and more so me, to stay the course. For obvious reasons I was extremely frustrated with the majority of the game. We never really took over the game the way I believed we should have. A lot of that had to do with so many starts and stops, but that is not an excuse."
On the aggressive play in the second half
"I was on them pretty hard during one timeout. I told them that when we extended the 2-2-1 (defense) and started to use some man defense to camouflage it, we started to trap more. That is what I have been expecting the last six games. That is who we need to be and that is truly how we can play. I have been doing this long enough and am smart enough to know who we can and can't play this defense against.
We weren't playing up to our capabilities in any area. I am old school and I believe that when we create offense out of our defense it gets everyone going. It opens up our transition game. We don't have to sit there and call out plays to make us a good basketball team. We are too talented for that."
On the team's record and development
"Minus one game, I am really happy. Am I happy for where we are at? Yes. Am I satisfied? No. I go back to the TCU game. It is behind us, but we have to learn from the past. All we have to do is get over it each 40-minute basketball game. The good of it is that (TCU) was ranked No. 21 in the nation. We know we belong and we are that close. We make a basket here and a basket there and we are 7-0. It makes my heart happy to hear them say that they are happy with where we are."
On Courtney Taylor's performance
"She gets frustrated when she is taken out of the game via foul trouble. I'll say it because she's too modest to say it, but even then she was still a point and an assist away from another double-double (against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi). That tells you what kind of kid and player she is."
Senior Forward Courtney Taylor
On the slow start in the first half
"We just came out kind of slow. We had to think about the game and get ready."
On the TCU game throwing off the season's perfect start
"We just shot bad at TCU and had an off game but it's behind us. Our team is at a different spot than last year's team."
On recording another double-double after barely missing one last game
"(I feel) back on track. Last game I was in foul trouble and frustrated."
Junior guard Porsche Landry
On any differences that may have caused the slow start
"In the beginning we weren't as aggressive as we usually are."
On being aggressive in the second half
"Coach (Wade) Scott is always asking if I'm going to do something. I felt myself not being very aggressive during the first half. Then I was thinking if I went up strong and controlled (the ball), it might turn out better."
