POST GAME QUOTES
Houston vs. SMU - Jan. 30, 2010
HEAD COACH Joe Curl
On his thoughts of the game
"First of all, I think we made three or four shots in a row and that made us better on the defensive end. A sign of a great team is scoring and being able to play hard on the defense. I thought we played hard on defense, but not as hard as we could have. We could have played much harder. With the type of girls that we have I think we can to learn from this."
On his impression of SMU
"I've said many times when people have asked me. Since you can't choose your own team to win the league, I voted SMU. I think they're a good team and are very well coached."
On taking care of the ball
"I heard Courtney say that we got a little stagnant and couldn't get back into our offense. I think there were three or four segments of time that they did better with the ball, but overall I think we did better with the ball than they did. Its college basketball and we were playing against a tough team. I wanted them to play like it was just 0-0 and put the ball in the basket, but that's not how it works."
On cutting the lead to three at the end of the game
"I felt the game was really choppy. This happened to us with the East Carolina game. We go up for free-throws and miss them and they rebound and that's just really a pet-peeve of mine. I should have subbed more."
JUNIOR FORWARD Courtney Taylor
On the Cougars' poor play after a strong start
"I think we got started okay. Brittany Gilliam just scored a lot and it's hard to stop her once she gets started. I think we got stagnant. I don't know if we just got too relaxed in the beginning of the first half, but something happened that really affected the second half. "
JUNIOR GUARD Brittney Scott
On the second half
"We should have played with more intensity. We should have shot more and boxed out. We gave them too many rebounds and second chance shots. I don't think we were as sloppy in the second half as we were the first half, but it was just the intensity of the game."
