Volleyball Adds Three During Early Signing Period

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team announced the signing of three athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Kacy Griffin, Shelbi Goode and Christine Pinder will join the squad in 2010.
KACY GRIFFIN
Griffin hails from San Antonio, Texas where she attended Ronald Regan High School. She was a setter for the volleyball team that finished the season ranked No. 2 in the state. The program has won three-straight District Championships, in addition to reaching the Regional Finals in 2007 and 2008 and the Regional Quarterfinals in 2009. Griffin is a three-year letterwinner and was named to the All-District First Team in 2009.
Griffin is the daughter of Paul and Kim Griffin.
SHELBI GOODE
Goode is a middle blocker from Georgetown High School in Austin, Texas. Her team finished the 2009 season ranked No. 12 in the state and they advanced to the state finals. She was named to the All-District First Team and was the team MVP. Goode holds the school record for blocks and aces and finished the 2009 season leading the team in kills, blocks and aces.
Goode is the daughter of Pat and Kimberly Goode.
CHRISTINE PINDER
Pinder, an outside hitter and defensive specialist, attends Buchholz High School in Gainesville, Fla. She was a member of the State Champion team in 2007 and is a three-time District Champion. Pinder was selected to the All-State and All-Area teams in 2008 and 2009 and was a four-year letterwinner. In her final two seasons, Pinder led the team in kills.
Pinder is the daughter of Claude and Shari Pinder.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
The 2009 volleyball season ended for UH on Nov. 20 with their first round loss to Southern Miss in the Conference USA Championship. The Cougars ended the season with a 9-23 overall mark and a 6-10 record in league play.
