Volleyball Signs Two During Early Signing Period

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball program and head coach Bill Walton announced that Tara Roenicke and Jasmine Terry have signed letters of intent to join the program for the 2009-10 school year.
Roenicke is currently a senior at Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., where she is a setter for the Grizzlies volleyball team. A four-year starter, Roenicke is a three-time Varsity MVP and captain of her team. She earned First Team All-League honors, in addition to being named to the First Team All-Valley and All-County teams. Roenicke set Los Osos High School records in kills (31), hitting percentage, aces (seven-consecutive), kill percentage, and assists. In the classroom, she is a CIF Scholar Athlete and an AP Honor Student.
In addition to her high school play, Roenicke is also a member of the Mizuno Long Beach club team where she is a two-time 18 Open Junior Olympic Championship participant, winning the silver medal in 2007. She has also been the team captain all but one season that she has been a member of her team.
Roenicke is also an avid beach volleyball player. Her team was rated the No. 1 USA Junior National Beach Team, where she was named the team captain. She is an "AAA" rated player and will represent the USA at the U19 Junior Olympic Festival in Sydney, Australia in 2009. In 2008, Roenicke represented the USA at the U19 SWATCH FIVB World Championships in The Hague, Netherlands and finished fifth, the highest finish for a USA girls team.
Terry is currently a senior at Pearland High School in Pearland, Texas where she is a middle or outside hitter for the Lady Oilers volleyball team. She is a two-time All-District Second Team selection from 2006-2008 and was named to the First Team following the 2008-09 season. Terry finished her career with 675 total kills, including 339 her senior season. She also recorded 512 total blocks.
Terry has played club volleyball for the Texas Tornadoes, Ava of Texas and the Southshore IRS and was also a member of the Oiler track team during the 2006-07 school year.
