Cross Country to Compete in the Sam Houston Invitational

HOUSTON--The University of Houston cross-country team travels to Hunstville, Texas Saturday to compete in the Sam Houston Invitational.
The meet begins at 8:30 a.m. with the men's 6.2K, followed by the women's 4K race at 9 a.m.
In addition to Houston, Rice-B Team, Texas A&M-B Team, Sam Houston, Houston Baptist, Central Arkansas, Southeast Louisiana, Northwestern Louisiana, Nicholls State, McNeese, North Texas, Southern-New Orleans, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and UTSA will also compete in the meet.
The women's team enters the race after finishing in fifth-place at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic. Freshman Stephanie Aldea received Conference USA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors after her second-place victory in the 5K race with a time of 17:28. This was Aldea's third weekly honor.
Also receiving C-USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors was freshman Nate Pineda, setting a personal-best record in the 8K at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic with a time of 26:06. He finished 15th overall out of 316 participants, leading his team to a 7th place finish among 38 teams. The weekly award was Pineda's second.

The Cougars will travel to Memphis Nov. 1 to compete in the C-USA Championships.
