Cross Country Women Take Fifth, Men Finish Seventh in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla.--The University of Houston women and men's cross-country team finished fifth and seventh, respectively at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Saturday.
The women, led by second-place finisher, freshman Stephanie Aldea (17:28), broke their first-place streak. The women have four Top Five finishes, three of which are first-place finishes.
The women finished in fifth with 169 points, four points shy of fourth. Houston outscored 39 teams, including No. 14 Florida, No. 15 South Central ranked UTSA, Conference USA rival UCF, and SEC school, South Carolina.
Among the women, 353 total runners from 44 teams participated in the meet.
Six of the eight Houston female runners, finished with a personal best in the 5K run. Freshman Starla Garcia finished 30th with a time of 18:47, while freshman Megan Munoz finished just one second behind in the 31st spot.
Freshman Brandi Witte took 38th-place with a time of 18:56, while junior Erica Hannenman finished 76th with a time of 19:31. Freshmen Jasmine Trier (20:30) and Ciera Johnson (21:34) finished 124th and 126th, respectively. Junior Kelcee Keenan finished154th with a time of 21:03.
For the men, 316 runners, from 38 teams competed in the men's 8K race. The men finished in seventh place with 266 points.
Eight of the ten runners for the men's team finished the race with a personal best.
Freshman Nate Pineda led the Cougar field, finishing 15th, with a time of 26:06. Freshman Anthony Jordan (26:55) finished in 47th, with junior Antony Keller (27:00) right behind for the 51st spot. Junior Mauricio Morales finished 82nd, with a time of 27:35, while freshmen Cole Bessner and Andres Santaolalla finished 87th and 89th, respectively.
