Cross Country Prepares for NCAA Regionals

Houston - The University of Houston cross country team will travel to the NCAA South Central Regionals Saturday in Waco, Texas.
The Cougars are coming off fifth and eighth place team finishes in the men and women's races, respectively, at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships. The men were led by freshman Ahmed Harb who came in fifth place and for the women freshman Jessica Cook took the top spot for the Cougars with a 25th place finish.
The men's team has finished in the top 10 in each meet this season, while the women have finished in the top 15. The men's best finish of the season came at the Hawaii Big Wave Classic when the men finished first led by senior Calum Neff's winning performance of 15:31. The women recorded a team best second place finish at the Hawaii Big Wave Class led by Cook's second place finish of 1:20.7.
The NCAA South Central Regional, hosted by Baylor University, and will take place at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. The women will race a 6,000-meter course with a start time of 10:00 a.m. with the men following at 11:15 a.m. on a 10,000-meter race. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony following the races.
Arkansas is the 2005 NCAA South Central Champion in both the men and the women's races. The top two teams in each race automatically qualify for the 2006 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 20.
